What challenges have you faced so far in your professional journey?

Tina Reinders:

Managing my team in a new hybrid setup due to sudden COVID-19 measures, while maintaining daily operations and ensuring continuity, was a significant challenge: The ramp-down of a full production facility, keeping the team motivated and meeting output targets and internal KPIs until the very end.

Anna Diedrichkeit:

My career has been full of challenges that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’ve taken on new roles requiring me to manage diverse responsibilities and work with people from different cultures. These experiences have been opportunities for growth. Being a woman in this field has brought its unique moments, but I am grateful for the invaluable lessons each challenge has taught me.

Esther Fox:

I have learned from the multiple challenges in my career, that a challenge is always an option for personal and professional growth. I have often volunteered for difficult tasks out of my personal comfort zone and it was worth it.

What has been your greatest achievement as a woman in leadership?

Anna Diedrichkeit:

I’m proud of proving that women deserve a seat at the table and can equally shape business directions while tackling critical challenges. At the same time, I’ve found immense gratitude in mentoring and supporting others. Helping my colleagues and mentees break new ground and grow has been personally fulfilling.

Esther Fox:

Being a role model for young female engineers brings me extraordinary satisfaction. Demonstrating that balancing leadership with motherhood is possible has been another source of pride. I’m deeply thankful to thyssenkrupp nucera for fostering a supportive environment that has made this balance achievable.

Tina Reinders:

I don’t view my success as specifically a “woman’s achievement,” but being recognized as a bridge-builder in a multicultural project has been a highlight. I successfully connected and managed various stakeholders, aligning them toward a shared goal. That experience demonstrated the value of communication and collaboration.

What tips would you give to young women pursuing a career in science?

Esther Fox:

Step out of your comfort zone and take on challenging tasks and opportunities as they arise, without hesitation. Be aware of your skills and unique strengths and seek out tasks that align with them. Learn to reflect on yourself and use those insights to grow both professionally and personally.

Tina Reinders:

Be yourself. Stay authentic, constructive, and confident. Challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone from time to time.

Anna Diedrichkeit:

Trust your instincts, curiosity and capabilities. Don’t diminish yourself or let others’ opinions define you—stay true to your strengths. When facing challenges, don’t hesitate to ask for help—chances are, others have encountered similar situations. Your peers and network can offer valuable support. Embrace the opportunity to work with smart, passionate people who are dedicated to making the world a better place. Build connections and learn from those around you.

How do you personally overcome challenges in your professional environment?

Tina Reinders:

I turn to mentors and people I trust for honest feedback. Their alternative perspectives often help me reflect and find a way forward. Staying positive and confident in finding a solution is crucial for me; I rely on my partner, friends, managers or peers as sounding boards when needed.

Anna Diedrichkeit:

I seek support from my team, manager, etc. as a sounding board for advice. Moreover working with a business coach and mentors have been another valuable step in my growth. It’s taught me to approach challenges strategically and with clarity. I also draw insights from training sessions, books, or other resources to gain fresh perspectives on challenges.

Esther Fox:

My personal mantra is to always be one step ahead when taking on new tasks. Being both the only woman and often the youngest person in the room has taught me the importance of proving oneself on a professional level consistently.

Thank you all for your inspiration!
